The Kaballah Creation Story is so beautiful and simple. It explains so many of the feelings daily life brings; the longing for interconnectedness and the faith that each encounter one experiences contains a unique spark of divine perfection. I created this extremely simple sketch to capture some of the magical feeling this story brings.

At the beginning before Creation there was only darkness and the Ein Sof at one with God, unified, a divine presence. Ein Sof means, “the light of infinity”. The essential nature of this light is to give of itself. So God endeavored to allow that.

God’s first act was to create “something” from this nothingness. So God emptied himself of the Ein Sof, releasing that infinite light into the “tzimtzum”, an infinite condensed energy, like a vessel. The vessel was known as “kelim”.

The kelim was filling with light and holding light, and filling more and holding it. But the quality of this light was becoming more divine in its growth, and a desire grew within to share of itself beyond the walls of the vessel. So the vessel exploded out in all directions, creating the entire material contents of the universe, so that each thing in the universe, each object in the natural thing, and all the living beings which followed, holds a piece of the original divine light of the Ein Sof.
